The Skin Specialist Centre is a new facility designed for skin patients. We provide an on-site laboratory for Mohs micrographic surgery plus full surgical and anaesthesia services. We have off street parking.

Dr McKerrow obtained his primary medical degree at Otago University and undertook postgraduate training in New Zealand at both Wellington and Auckland Hospitals. Further postgraduate training was obtained as Research Fellow at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland; and Clinical Lecturer at the National Medical Laser Centre, University College, London. He was appointed to Clinical Lecturer and Dermatological and Surgical Fellow in Mohs Surgery at New England Medical Centre, Boston, USA. On his return to New Zealand he established the first Mohs Surgical Unit in this country. He is a regular attendee at the following – the New Zealand Dermatological Society meeting, the Australasian College of Dermatologists' meeting, and the American Academy of Dermatology meeting.

Professional activities

Dr McKerrow is available for consultations for all aspects of dermatology and specialises particularly in laser, cosmetic and skin cancer surgery. Facial blood vessels, whether they are telangiectatic vessels or general redness, can be treated with a combination of the Gemini laser and/or in combination with the Cynergy laser. The Cynergy laser from Cynosure is a unique laser which treats port wine stains and rosacea through a combination of two wave-lengths simultaneously working together. The same laser is extremely useful in removing leg veins. The Fraxel laser is the treatment of choice for the management of acne scarring, skin tightening, pigmentation and striae (stretch marks). The For laser hair removal, we are able to treat all skin types with our combination of the alexandrite laser and the 1060 Nd/YAG laser. Included among the cosmetic procedures performed at the Skin Specialist Centre are:

• Eyelid surgery involving both upper and lower eyelids, in conjunction with laser resurfacing with the Portrait device if necessary.
• Liposculpture, using the tumuescent technique.
• Mohs surgery, which offers the highest cure rate for non-melanoma skin cancers and is particularly suited for large, difficult or recurrent skin neoplasms, is provided on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Skin Specialist Centre in Remuera is a modern facility designed for the management of skin patients. The centre provides an on-site laboratory for Mohs micrographic surgery, plus full surgical and anaesthesia services. We also have off-street parking. Over 550 cases of Mohs surgery are performed each year, with referrals from both the North and South Islands. Over 8,500 cases of Mohs surgery have been performed since its introduction to New Zealand in 1989 by Dr McKerrow.
