Spider naevus

What features distinguish this condition from other causes of telangiectasia?

The spider naevus (figure 1) represents localised telangiectasia with a central arteriole (the 'body') and radiating capillaries (the 'legs' of the spider). It is most often noted on face, arms, or upper trunk. Common at all ages and both sexes, they may be associated with pregnancy, oral contraceptives and liver disease.
