GP Quiz 35 – Case 2

Make a diagnosis.

Linear facial telangiectasia

What features distinguish this condition from other causes of telangiectasia?

Red linear and arborising telangiectasia frequently occurs on the face, particularly on the nose, cheeks, and chin. It is due to genetic predisposition, hormonal factors and chronic sun exposure. It is more noticeable with increasing age. The vessels tend to be more prominent in males, especially on the sides of the nose. Facial telangiectasia may be a predisposing factor for rosacea or arise as a consequence of chronic inflammation.
