GP Quiz 6 - Case 2.
This elderly female patient presented complaining of a nail deformity.
What is the diagnosis?
Myxoid cyst. This is a soft skin coloured or translucent nodule, which grows on the terminal phalanx and fluctuates in size. It causes a longitudinal furrow of the nail plate.
What is the treatment?
Asymptomatic lesions can be left untreated. Persistent digital pressure on the lesion sometimes results in resolution. Intralesional triamcinolone, cryotherapy, incision and drainage, or excision may eradicate it. Recurrence is frequent.
