Dr. Ida is a board-certified dermatologist presently on staff with the US Veterans Administration (VA) where he focuses on expanding access to dermatologic care for veterans.
He graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University with a bachelor of arts in neuroscience and started his professional life as a bench researcher at the National Institutes of Health and later at Harvard Medical School while working on his master of science in public health from Harvard University. He then practiced as an infectious disease epidemiologist for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in the area of vaccine-preventable diseases until moving on to medical school.
He received his MD from the Chicago Medical School during which time he took a sabbatical year to conduct research on the immunogenetics of Hansen disease (leprosy). He then completed his dermatology residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he was academic chief. He has been practicing as an attending dermatologist since 2010 and has been on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton, MA, and at the Feinberg School of Medicine & Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Ida's clinical interests include general medical dermatology, dermoscopy, and teledermatology. An avid language aficionado, Dr. Ida speaks Italian and German and dabbles in several others. He puts his passion for language and editing to use as a freelance copy editor and occasional translator, and he is a proud volunteer editor with Dermnet® since 2023.
