Benign labial melanosis of unknown cause

Benign labial melanosis refers to uniform tan to black pigmented macules on the lips. Sun-induced freckles are quite common in those with fair skin, but melanosis may also be post-inflammatory or spontaneous. If there are multiple lesions, consider Peutz-Jeghers, Laugier-Hunziker and other rare syndromes characterised by melanosis or lentiginosis.
