From time to time, we come across linear skin lesions. This can be very helpful diagnostically as there is a limited range of possible diagnoses. A careful history and examination of the morphology of the lesions usually sorts them out.

Lichen striatus
What is the cause?
Lichen striatus is a type of ‘blaschkitisa’ or an inflammatory rash that arises along a blaschko line. It mainly affects children, who present with a pink or brown, asymptomatic dry plaque in a line from groin to foot. Parallel bands may occur. It may have eczematous, psoriatic or lichenoid morphology and histology. It clears spontaneously after a few months.
