Case 7

This dairy farmer develops tender and irritable blisters and erythematous plaques on the dorsum of his hands and fingers every spring. They persist for several weeks or months before resolving.

Chilblains (perniosis)

Exposure to cold and wet, for example when riding a motor cycle on the farm and milking.

Warm clothing should be worn, and the hands must be kept dry. Warming the hands in warm water before going outdoors in cold weather may prevent new lesions. Soothing antipruritic lotions may provide symptomatic relief.
