This quiz will test your diagnostic skills in diagnosing nail abnormalities.
Diseases of the fingernails and toenails may result in abnormalities of the nail plate, the cuticle and nail fold. Treatment should be directed at the cause, and may need to be continued for months or years while the nails grow out.
Nail plate abnormalities are often due to inflammatory conditions affecting the matrix or nail bed. Specific diagnoses may be made from characteristic appearances.

What is the diagnosis or explanation?
Benign melanocytic naevus is likely if the lesion is longstanding and not changing. A new lesion should be observed to see if the band widens or biopsy performed in case of melanoma.
