Pustules don’t always indicate infection, as sterile pustules may arise in various inflammatory skin disorders. The disorders discussed in this quiz may present as pustular eruptions.

Secondary infection due to Staphylococcus aureus

Wound infection (first picture) or infected eczema (second picture) may present as pustules due to Staphylococcus aureus +/- Streptococcus pyogenes. These may be itchy or painful.
