What is the diagnosis?
Juvenile xanthogranuloma
What causes the yellow hue in the skin in this condition?
Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a rare histiocytic disorder that presents in babies and infants as one or more red-brown papules. These become yellowish due to lipid accumulation in macrophages or ‘foam cells’. They resolve later in childhood. Similar deposits within the eyes may lead to disturbance of vision. Other histiocytoses may also present with yellow skin lesions.
