Dr Tim Aung

Dr Aung, of proud Southeast Asian heritage, is a highly accomplished general practitioner and academic scholar based in Brisbane, Australia. With a distinguished career spanning multiple medical disciplines, he has established himself as a dedicated healthcare professional, educator, and researcher.
After serving in Myanmar, the South Pacific Islands, and public hospitals in New Zealand, Dr Aung became a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP) in 2010. He then attained a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2011.
Dr Aung’s clinical expertise covers a broad range of areas, including men’s and women’s health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraception (including Implanon and Mirena), diabetes and cardiovascular management, musculoskeletal medicine, and refugee and immigrant health. He has also developed a special interest in general dermatology and skin cancer, with advanced skills in excision procedures, including flap and graft techniques, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Aung is an active contributor to medical research, with an impressive portfolio of over 30 publications, including contributions to Dermnet NZ, and more than 100 peer-reviewed articles across over 15 national and international journals. The majority of these publications and peer reviews are dermatology-related. In 2025, he was awarded a RES-FRAGP (Recognized Extended Skills in Dermatology). He is deeply committed to medical education, dedicating significant time to mentoring and supervising medical students, thereby shaping the future of healthcare.
He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and an Honorary Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bond University. Outside of medicine, he is an avid golfer and a passionate follower of the NRL
