What is the name of the skin condition?
Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis
What underlying systemic disease(s) or condition is it caused by?
A diagnosis of Sweet disease, or acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, was confirmed by neutrophilia and typical histology. Symptoms and signs settled within a week on oral prednisone, which was tapered over a month without recurrence.
Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis is associated with inflammatory bowel disease, thought to be the reason for this patient's skin rash. The condition is also often associated with upper respiratory tract infection, haematological malignancies, solid tumours and drugs. The diagnosis is made clinically and supported by histology, neutrophilic leukocytosis and good response to systemic corticosteroids.
