Dermatitis on lower legs due to gumboots; mercaptobenzothiazole contact allergy.
What is the patient's likely occupation?
Dry stock farmer.
Reactions to black rubber, e.g., gumboots (as in the case illustrated), tyres or milking hose, often reveal positive patch tests to mercaptobenzothiazole or paraphenylenediamine mix. Allergic contact dermatitis arises in sites in contact with the black rubber, i.e., lower legs for gumboots and hands/forearms for milking hose.
