Make a diagnosis.
Photosensitivity dermatitis; sun exposure following use of creasote.
What is the patient's likely occupation?
Fencer.
Photocontact reactions in an occupational setting may also arise from sunscreens (outdoor workers), coal tar (road workers) and creasote (as in the case illustrated). A sunburn-like eruption (toxicity) or dermatitis (irritant or allergic reaction) is confined to areas exposed to the responsible material but only where also exposed to the sun. Skin creases, shadowed and covered areas are spared in photocontact reactions.
