What is this skin lesion?
This is a lentigo maligna, the in-situ phase of lentigo maligna melanoma. The presence of a scar indicates there has been previous surgery.
What are the clinical features of this disorder?
Lentigo maligna affects sun-damaged skin, most often the face or neck of middle-aged or elderly individuals. It becomes increasingly noticeable over several years, and is characterised by irregularity in shape and colour variation. Invasive disease is less common than in melanoma arising in other subtypes. On the other hand, local recurrence is seen more frequently.
