Digital myxoid cyst
Describe the disorder
Digital myxoid or mucous cysts are little ganglions, and are quite common after middle age. They present as firm skin-coloured or translucent papules, usually located on the dorsum of the terminal phalanx. Distally located cysts often cause nail deformity, most often a longitudinal groove. Needling the cyst to express clear or yellowish viscous gel may be repeated as required; they do not always recur. There is a variety of specialist surgical approaches for recurrent or refractory lesions, if desired.
